We build community so we can learn from each other.
This very special program combines self study, home practice, and community learning for an in-depth exploration of a variety of texts on Yoga, Buddhism, philosophy, and spiritual study. This book club is an opportunity to build sangha, or a community of seekers, in a spirit of individual exploration and is perfect for all of us non-joiners.
Our book group happens once per season: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall, and typically lasts about six weeks. This program is also available for online study.
Each series includes:
- Weekly reading and contemplative assignments. Contemplative practices draw from the themes of that week's reading, helping to integrate and explore the questions and ideas of the text in an embodied way, as well as sowing the seeds for a regular home practice.
- Continual support throughout the session via email with myself and the book club community.
- One culminating in-person community meeting to discuss the book, meet each other, and reflect on your experience.
Book club series is $40, and $35 for online-only study.

Our 2018 Sessions
Book: The Way of Tenderness by Zenju Earthlyn Manuel
Dates: February 18 - March 25th// Community meet-up Sunday March 25th in Beacon, NY
This session we will be reading one of the most impactful books I read during my training with the New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care. Zenju Earthlyn Manuel brings her hard won wisdom and experience as a lesbian, black woman and Zen Buddhist priest to explore the necessity for tenderness to ultimately address issues around race, gender, and sexuality. In the midst of a political moment where marginalized voices are being heard in new and often painful ways, this book brings the teachings of emptiness, compassion, and interconnectivity to our understanding of our responsibility to each other and how our hearts can grow through practice.
This session will include a regular, led meditation practice, free-writing prompts, and a community meeting at the end to come together as a sangha.
