We build community so we can learn from each other.
This very special program combines self study, home practice, and community learning for an in-depth exploration of a variety of texts on Yoga, Buddhism, philosophy, and spiritual study. This book club is an opportunity to build sangha, or a community of seekers, in a spirit of individual exploration and is perfect for all of us non-joiners.
Our book group happens once per season: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall, and typically lasts about six weeks. This program is also available for online study.
Each series includes:
- Weekly reading and contemplative assignments. Contemplative practices draw from the themes of that week's reading, helping to integrate and explore the questions and ideas of the text in an embodied way, as well as sowing the seeds for a regular home practice.
- Continual support throughout the session via email with myself and the book club community.
- One culminating in-person community meeting to discuss the book, meet each other, and reflect on your experience.
Book club series is $40, and $35 for online-only study.

Our 2018 Sessions
Book: Cutting through Spiritual Materialism by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche
Dates: June 17 - August 19th// Community meet-up Sunday August 19th in Beacon, NY
This session we will be reading one of the classic modern texts on spirituality by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, the founder of Shambhala. Shambhala was were I began my Buddhist studies, and I have found their grounded and practical approach to the teachings fresh and insightful. This text presents an image of what liberated spiritual practice can look like, freed from the tricks we often play on ourselves in our journey to obtain wisdom. Part compassionate hug, part swift slap on the rear, this text is, well, one of those books we modern practitioners could all use to explore.
This session will include a regular, led meditation practice, free-writing prompts, connection with a fellow sangha member who will be your study/exploration buddy, and a community meeting at the end to come together as a community.
